H1N1: Insights into the Current Situation & Midstream Planning Assessment

Background Information:

The CDC estimates more than 22 million Americans have been infected with H1N1 and 3,900 have died1. While the U.S. government has ordered 250 million doses of vaccine, companies have only been able to manufacture some 70 million doses. The possibility of an even stronger wave or a mutation has experts concerned. In this discussion, our speakers reviewed the country's response to the initial outbreak, its progression to pandemic, and discussed possible future scenarios and methods for creating an appropriate preparedness plan (and how the existing plan can be modified given the outlook and lessons learned to date).

Our guest speakers discussed:

  • Reviewed current planning guidance and discuss how the current knowledge has affected planning assumptions and how strategies should be modified
  • Provided a “situational brief” to bring webcast participants up to date on the current threat from the H1N1 Pandemic
  • Evaluated what systems are working and not working productively – including lessons learned from those responsible for public health operations during this pandemic

Additionally, this live webcast included a question and answer session.
